Alibaba Cloud introduces a carbon management solution

The global launch of Energy Expert, a sustainability platform that will assist customers in measuring, analyzing, and managing the carbon emissions of their business operations and products worldwide, was announced by Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence core of Alibaba Group. To assist clients in hastening their sustainability journeys, the software-as-a-service (SaaS) products also give practical insights and suggestions for energy conservation.

The program supports Alibaba's commitment to carbon neutrality, launched last year. The business, which invented the "Scope 3 +" idea, has committed to sharing its energy-saving solutions with its clients and business associates to bring everyone together in the cause of lowering carbon footprints.

"Energy Expert is designed to help companies achieve their carbon neutrality goals through advanced technologies and streamlined solutions," said Chen Lijuan, General Manager of Product and Solutions at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.

Energy Expert assists clients in automating their corporate and product-level carbon accounting and reporting processes and obtaining real-time sustainability impact figures for better decision-making. Based on the PAS 2060 and ISO 14064 criteria for carbon neutrality, the platform enables customers to pinpoint the sources of the carbon emissions from their regular business operations and the entire life cycle of their products.

Customers can also calculate their carbon footprint using a prebuilt calculation model, public emission factor databases, and complete datasets from Energy Expert. Additionally, visualizations on dashboards and online reports offer visibility into their actual carbon emission trends and the development of their sustainability performance.

The solution also offers rich analytics on energy efficiency and emission estimates through deep learning-based AI models hosted on Alibaba Cloud. Energy Expert also provides actionable optimization plans with suggestions that balance business growth and environmental implications to assist customers in minimizing their overall ecological impact. Increasing the usage of clean energy, cutting back on excessive peak-hour electricity use, and streamlining supply chains from material sourcing to product shipment are a few examples.

Additionally, Energy Expert collaborates with well-known international business organizations like TÜV Rheinland to provide authoritative online carbon footprint certification and accounting services that make it simple for clients to verify and share their progress in energy conservation with stakeholders.

The idea was implemented in China in February of this year. It has serviced more than 2,000 businesses and produced daily energy savings of over 2 million kilowatt-hours or a decrease in carbon dioxide emissions of 400,000 tons since February.

A significant part of the environmental initiatives put in place at Alibaba's Xixi headquarters in Hangzhou was also played by Energy Expert. With the help of the platform's energy-saving suggestions, which include the intelligent control of the air conditioning system and the installation of roof-top solar energy panels that generate 1.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, the solution has helped optimize energy efficiency at the company's headquarters and has thus far decreased power consumption by 30% during off-peak hours and saved 17% of the energy used for air conditioning in the summer.
