Users of all platforms, including Windows, iOS, Android, and macOS, will be able to utilize Defender to safeguard their devices now that Microsoft has introduced it for individual Microsoft 365 subscribers. More information regarding Microsoft Defender can be found here.
Microsoft Defender for individuals is now available
"To help keep your data private and devices secure, people often turn to multiple security products, with scattered security monitoring and device management. This fragmentation makes keeping up with increasing online threats even harder. We must evolve our security solutions to meet unique customer needs at home and work by bringing together existing technologies in a new way. That is why we are introducing Microsoft Defender for individuals," said Vasu Jakkal, Corporate Vice President, Security, Compliance, Identity, and Management, Microsoft.
What does Microsoft Defender have to offer?
- From a single, easy-to-use, centralized dashboard, users can control their security safeguards and observe security measures for everyone in their family.
- Users can check the status of their antivirus protection (such as Norton or McAfee). The defender detects these safeguards in the dashboard.
- Extend Windows device safeguards to iOS, Android, and macOS devices to provide cross-platform malware protection on users' platforms.
- Users will receive real-time security alerts, resolution techniques, and professional advice to help protect their data and devices.
Microsoft Defender is available for all platforms.
On PC platforms, the defender apps work in tandem with the pre-installed or third-party antivirus software. As a result, on macOS and Windows 11, Microsoft Defender will also protect you from internet-based phishing attacks. The app is also believed to display the security status of other devices linked to your Microsoft account, as well as send out security alerts.
It has a variety of features on the mobile platform. The Microsoft Defender iOS app will only offer web protection and display the security status of other devices enrolled with the service. Like most Android security solutions, the Android app has an antivirus feature as well as a malware scanner. This one also offers web security.
The app is free to download on all platforms, but it will only operate if you have an active Microsoft 365 subscription. Microsoft promises to keep adding new features and capabilities to the Microsoft Defender app, such as identity theft protection and a secure online connection.
